Jackson Pollock
One: Number 31,1950
Oil on enamel paint on canvas
8'10x 17' 5 5/8
MoMa Museum

This art piece by Jackson Pollock was part of an exhibition in the MOMA Museum. The title of this painting is One: No. 31. In this series of abstract paintings  this was one of the largest pieces. A long with  in the exhibition there were 50 paintings,  drawings and prints in the collection.  In particular to the painting is featured more towards figurative, mythical, and primeval themes.
The style of this painting  is abstract and the mediums in order to make this piece is oil on enamel paint, on canvas.  There are some patterns in a way, which is used with color, and as for texture it is very rough. The layers are done by globs of solid paint splattered across the canvas. The different hues of black, green and white are very prominent; in the sense  that if you look at each individual color in how the effect the canvas and you eye, it stands out in a pattern. The yellow background definitely adds to how you view the splatter paint, in the sense that it makes the hues stand out. There are no values. From an emotional response, I feel as this were static almost, or different nerves all jumping out at me in adrenaline. But eventually if you follow the lines to me there is a type of smoothness. Since the paint is not necessarily pressed upon the canvas that is where the rough texture stands.
I had chosen  this particular piece from Jackson Pollock because I always look at refined art and portraits. But this time I really wanted to step out of my comfort zone and choose something that spoke to me emotionally from the artist. I have seen Jackson Pollock's art before online and I was instantly  fascinated because, I had found it extremely sophisticated for abstract art. It was very simple in its color composition, but it screamed in its technique, emotion.
Visiting the MoMa for the first time at first I was not completely enthralled but eventually it came to from on me once I had entered the "Modern" section of paintings. Also the exhibition of Jackson Pollock, that was the whole reason why i decided to go to the MOMA.
From what this coarse has taught me I definitely see art in a more professional view. Meaning I understand content, emotion, message, and the composition of an art piece. Art Society definitely exposed me to how in general the "art society" from the past and until now is like. It is extremely controversial, rebellious, liberal, and not so liberal. Art Society had inspired me to make a difference in the Art culture itself, like the Gorilla Girls. I want in all female artists to be known and shared more in exhibits. They deserve that privilege like anybody else in the art world.

Creative Project #2

Land Degradation is all over the word, but I am specifically focusing in NYC Manhattan. Land degradation comes in various forms, like water pollution, extreme dry land, deforestation, polluted soil and more. But the main reason for the cause of land degradation is because of humans; factories, deforestation, overgrazing, abandoned farm land, littering etc all contribute to the destruction of land. This causes major problems for all living organisms. If we do not have proper soil for crops how can we grow our produce? The lack of land due to the expansion of cities also take a tole upon the ecosystem and animal population.
This project is important to me because I think taking care of the earth and ecosystem  is essential for human life as well as animal life. Instead of relying on factories manufacturing produces for people,we are not benefiting all the nutritional benefits from what we consume. Unnaturally creating food produce, and or using horrible soil to make produce is not right for people to consume. As well as in general the lack of forestation in NYC is troublesome. The absence of nature and real gardens in NYC are a problem. To me with a large garden in NYC you feel as if you can breathe better, as well you are benefiting some wild life whom do the environment great justice.
The monument that I am proposing is a large garden, but located in an unused outlet in NYC Manhattan. In this outlet will be many flowers,a rocky path way where you can explore the different type of plant life. This monument will be exposing what NYC can look like if we had less buildings, it could be almost a paradise. This is to bring awareness to people that we need to spread nature more rather the concrete.
This monument will be located in 325 W 33st Manhattan. This is a public monument where everyone can enter and exit, benches will be supplied. Before entering the garden there will be a plaque on the floor describing what this garden stands for. What the garden does stand for is to spread wild life, to advocate the natural life, to also remind people where we came from. We did not come from the Concrete Jungle, but a colorful exotic world, which we should never destroy but bring back. In the Beginning of the garden on each side you are presented with bushes, and when you look up there will be large tress  coming over the lot. As you walk the dirt/stone path it takes you through variations of flower and plant species. Some flowers will be from other countries representing how these countries should do the same. The monument itself is supposed to represent paradise and how delicate earth is. This is supposed to represent how beautiful the earth really is, so why should we ever destroy it?
I hope once people exit and experience the garden itself, that they have a different out look upon the world and that they would support the cause and make a difference to our ecosystem. I want this monument to impact people in a way that they know the world would be better and safer, if we had more free land, more space, for wild life, our agriculture, and just the general ecosystem to prosper rather then suffer.

Who am I? Well I am a cat, and cats have all the power in the world if you ask me. I like to demonstrate my femininity in a fierce and edgy fashion. My demonstration of pointing my pitchfork towards the viewer is my thoughts upon myself as a King. Ever since I was young always dreamt of being royalty. As normal girls wanted to be a princess I wanted to be a King. As well as for me pulling off make up from my face. I am releasing myself from the idea of cosmetics and the "ideal" world. Showing my true self is what is important. Who I am, I am a purely delicate, fierce, a woman who can hold her own, and guid herself through anything to gain success. I am a designer, creator, and abstract minded individual. Most importantly and most seriously a feline. They make up the part of me that is majestic, graceful, playful, and as well as beautiful. Everything about them, to their regal manor, mesmerizes me and that is what know is me.

El Barrio

Dear Shellyne Rodriguez,
During my visit in Museo De Barrio, I had found your sculpture “Calling the spirit of the garbage offensive”. It was truly an outstanding piece. The composition of the broom stick, chain with a hanging azabache fist charm, is extremely powerful. The concept of the hanging hand with the chain not only was representational of human labor. The endurance of the people in what they had to deal with as a whole community was frustrated not just physically but emotionally. I feel that this piece was not meant to have a light emotion brought with it. The “calling the spirit of the garbage offensive” is very heavy in personal temperament and that is what I appreciate. What had struck me the most is the mouth of the broom is interpreting the bristles of the broom.  I question, why not as well use pieces of garbage to make the statement clearer to the viewer? Did you feel that when you were creating this sculpture that it was blunt enough? As well as why did you use the interpretation of human teethe for cleaning the streets? Was it that the people, in their grit and hard work was to be portrayed as the broom itself? Speaking for the materials itself, when making the mouth of the lower broom stick, did you use ceramics? A dense material, or simply paper mache?  In all, how difficult or easy did you find this art work to be created? Was the process itself simple compared to other works that you have created?

I can see your motivation upon this art piece. Reading of the Young Lords in El Barrio, I found it very striking and brave of the individuals whom wanted to step up for themselves and their community. Mimicking the black panthers, instead of it being gang affiliated it was an activist movement. In East Harlem the whole neighborhood within El Barrio had went to the sanitation department, but the sanitation department themselves had not made no effort to clean. So the locals and the Young Lords had barged into the department, stole their cleaning equipment and started cleaning their own streets. To show their own frustration they swept every spec of dirt into the middle of the road and had set it on fire. This act had represented their rage and dis-pleasant with the sanitation department. The hard work that the community in El barrio had I can see was the teethe of the black broom, along with the chained hand in a fist.  I am in awe and shock of your intent, message and construction of this art piece. Like none other have I seen before in a museum. Your communication to the modern world today was very clear to me. Your intent for sure was to tell people today how Hispanic communities had lived in a poverty state, and that they had enough of mistreatment and neglect of their current home. The grit and hard work was purely emphasized in your work. This art piece was for those who in this time and activist movement had fought for their rights.

Title: The Extension to Creation
Artist: Unknown
Date: 21st century
Medium: metal, plastic, threading

What makes an object have value? An object has value due to ones perspective and view upon the object itself. The object that I have chosen is a sewing machine. Why a sewing machine is because for centuries the sewing machine has been used in different ways to create fabrics, patterns, and apparel. It is the main source of designing, creativity, it is also the next levels for artists. It brings classic cultures all over the world into a union. As well as for the personal recognition, my mother has always sewn. Whether it has been her own clothes, my clothes, and or just designing dresses. She has inspired me as well as a young child to be a designer. I was purely fascinated by such a device in what one person can accomplish with it. It symbolizes, independence, creativity, and hard work; that inspires me to do more for myself, to work for myself because I believe  that everyone should be in charge for themselves. Through history in may have been seen otherwise by hardworking seamstresses. The symbol of the sewing machine holds an intense history behind it. Why this should be considered to be an a museum is because there are so many sewing machines in the world, rustic and not so rustic. For this particular machine it holds the legacy of all machines.  It holds the beginning and end of a whole sub culture of designers as well as the expansion of technology. If in the future, it would be the start of the machine. It would later on evolve and expand to other different forms of the device itself. In all the sewing machine is historic, it portrays strength, beauty to come, and hard labor.

Met Museum Essay

The classic painting that you see on your left is made by Giovanni Ambrogio de Predis, titled Girl with Cherries, made in 1492-95, and the mediums used were oil paint on wood. As for the second painting below was made by Mary Beth Mckenzie, title Self- Portrait, made in 2002, and the is medium oil paint on canvas. The similarities between  these paintings is that they both use the same paint, and have the same visual stand point. Both figures are faced towards the viewer. The differences between the stances, are that the "Self- Portrait" is literally facing you, making eye contact with the view rather than the "Girl with Cherries". The texture of the Girl with Cherries is very soft and delicate in brush strokes. The wooden "canvas" definitely makes the medium and texture of the paint velvet like. The objective of this painting is considered idealistic and realistic. Due to the time period it is deemed to be a "natural depiction".  To portray a woman as delicate, "rich", and elegant. There is no rough texture with in this painting. How your eye moves around the painting is due to the pigmentation upon the given surface. The bright complimentary colors of cherry red and olive green make your focus move around the body to the olive toned skin. Values are contrasted to emphasize the young woman's clothing, skin, hair and face. When I had witnessed this painting i was captured by the fragility and delicates in how it was painted.  By the texture, temperament, and purpose of the painting. In comparison to Mary Beth's "Self-Portrait", in comparison to "Girl with Cherries", is completely opposite with texture despite the fact the same paint was applied. With the texture being applied is a lot rougher and a bit messy. Everything is not in its place nor exactly idealized. This is a representative and stylized art piece. The background color emphasizes  the mood of the viewer. The facial expression of Mary Beth is not so delicate but almost very serious and heavy. As an example the art philosopher Ernst Gombrich  stated, "Style rules where the artist wishes to reproduce".Viewing this particular art piece it defines the quote. The emotional "style" had ruled Mary Beth.  I accepted the given emotion being portrayed. Experiencing this particular piece in contrast to the Italian painting I do  not feel the delicate emotion painted on the canvas. The brush strokes are rough quick, and rigid.
I believe these two art pieces are in the Metropolitan Museum because it is noticeable how revolutionary art is between 13th and the 21st century. How art has evolved in portraying women, is that before we had focused on depicting women in their social class and how they should be viewed as. It is unrealistic how women should look like in real life. "Angelic faces" were meant to be emphasized, no imperfections were portrayed in a painting what so ever.  As for the 21st century art it is a lot more liberal in exposure to women and female artists. There is no particular method or way that as a modern artist had to necessarily follow. Rather mainly focus on how an artist views themselves or particular subject of art. The viewer to the artist completely opinionated. Why? Stylization has no "proper form". These two works are the perfect example between stylization and realism, despite the fact the two time eras are widely apart.

Élisabeth Louise Vigée-LeBrun Oil Painting

The style of this painting is representational, and realistic. The artist whom created this art piece is a female. She was not conforming to how men necessarily depicted women through their point of view. This was more of a personalized type of painting.  This shows beauty, sadness, and elegance, it shows a woman in her society. This particular woman is a dancer, and what Elisabeth Vigee- LeBrun wanted to portray is her own solemnness, and the dancer. Their charm, fragility, and softness, is infinite. The artist is not going by from what Berger is saying necessarily, it just so happens, that the artist purposely wanted to have her model facing away. She wanted the spectators to see what she felt, what the model as well had felt. Even with her color choice is saturated with emotion, but is oh so soft. The figure is relaxed entirely, frail, as well as extremely noble. She represents a woman whom is in a high class.
How Berger's outlook applies to this method of painting is somewhat accurate. Why? Is due to the fact that it shows how men would find this figure appealing. As well as it shows she is well kept a good preserved woman with class.  This would be deemed atheistically pleasing.  Berger states, "Men survey women before treating them. Consequently how a woman appears to a man can determine how she will be treated. To acquire some control over this process, women must contain an interiorize it." This is the perfect quote because it literally describes what "perfection" is to the artist "himself". What Elisabeth depicts is more less specific to what "men prefer". Due to the specific model herself, she wanted to be as elegant and beautiful as she could possibly be, aside from her facial expression in which the artist wanted otherwise. Between the dancers specific life struggle, and Elisabeth's struggle to be a free woman the solemness in her face is given. No matter how much beauty is there there is pain.

The princess

I was with m friend, I call her my Princess, for she acts like one, but is most humble. Her and I were just taking snaps, and i felt like this moment was priceless. It says a lot about my personality, playful, expressive, and I just LOVE cats.  I believe that would be the main objective. Honestly to see such a playful act brings me joy. As well as enjoy the female appearance. It is grace, femininity, just such a beautiful structure.   I love the way her body correspond with cat features, as love as I love doing make -up. I had applied it upon her in which i wanted to to compliment her face, her style also in who she was. I thought the focus of the picture was necessary for the focus on her face but rather her angelic atmosphere. I chose this outfit because it was simple yet eye catching. There is a saying the label do not make the model but model makes the label.  As for the environment it was most comfortable and  suitable for showing comfort. The contrast in color in room of light eliminates the mode, of course making her the main focus. The textures are fine, sharp, yet soft and subtle. The brightness as well had brought out her skin tone and emphasized makeup.

What this art piece means to me the most, is fragility, playfulness, delicate structure, as well as the flirtatiousness.   What this brings out is the true similarities of a female and feline.

Come Away from Her

"Come Away from Her" by Kiki Smith and Lewis Carroll.
The form that we see in this piece is  water color and Intaglio based. The predominant color base in this Contemporary painting is cool colors, very neutral not static. For the most visual elements is that the cool colors bring you to a solemn and yet peaceful outlook upon this art piece. The young melancholy female is in the foreground, with a black bird background. Within the horizon stand point is the middle ground. How everything is pulled together is by texture. The texture is light with brush strokes, but the watercolor gives the fluent, delicate but almost dramatic effect. This is a plain flat painting. There is no 3-d effect or realistic effect.
What you first see in this picture is the calm young girl. Your eyes move to the black birds which take equal amount space upon the paper, as the girl laying on the hill. What really pulls you all together is the cool pigments. The whole emotion of this piece, is intense, somber, but very much calm. The pale pink dress definitely gives  the painting a pop. In the sense not everything is blended together. As for the direction of the piece is diagonal.  With linear perspective, is very disproportionate. Light values, are dark, not necessarily dim.  But that is the emotion that you feel.  I believe that the concept of  this painting is the consumption of young minds getting lost within nature, or being overly consumed within their minds. Even though you cannot see her eyes your imagination wonders what is her true expression, or what may be she pondering upon as she gazes as the birds fly away.

I do not have an artistic environment around me generally, so I go online to look at art galleries, or research different artists.  In this case since I was web streaming, I had stumbled upon this photo. It was very dramatic and had caught my eye in such a way.
This is graphic designing, 2-D art. The artist had said to be unknown, I assumed since he/she wanted to keep it mysterious. What I think that this artist was trying to portray was predominantly his/her emotions. It is very dark, very solemn, it is almost like you cannot breathe, but then fresh air is given within the center.

  1. I had found this specific picture most intriguing, it was not a random choice, for this had struck out to me and had spoken to me. It speaks in such a dramatic way with color. How other viewers may interpret this picture is gloomy and intense perhaps. Unsure maybe of the story being given. Some may even say with darkness there is light, but leaves you with such a heaviness. With the faded texture of an old fashion picture gives this art piece more of a vintage yet melancholy effect. Some may falsely assume that this artist may be depressed, or this may just be a troubling picture. It has both effects in a way between the eclipse happening and the warm and cold colors. Depending on the individuals in take upon this graphic design they may grasp s sense of warmness and isolation. Or just sheer depressed emotion. I believe that it is the sun setting, with the clash of the moon bring out all these fantastic colors. Despite the fact that it is limited. Overall this is a breathtaking piece. From its shadows to its highlights- to the echo of darkness that it repeats. It is unusual, strange, abstract and so self expressive.
