Final post

Artist name; Kevin Beasley
Untitled
Materials; house dresses, resin, soil, and television Mount
Museum; MoMA

The artwork that I selected was a sculpture titled "Untitled" by Kevin Beasley. The mediums used were house dresses, resin, soil, and a television Mount. The variety of colors is what caught my attention. When I saw this I thought of the four seasons. The bright and orange represents fall. The purple with what looks like mint green represents spring. The blue is winter and the green with light blue is summer. On the left side almost where the middle is there's black with red circles. That reminded me of the night sky and those red orbs were the twinkling stars that lid the night. The artist's choice of materials was interesting to me because he used clothing. At first glance I believed it was some sort of paint but when I got closer I was wrong. I didn't know what this was until I read the caption.
After being in this class, I've learned how to view paintings and sculptures differently. Normally I would of been a passive observer however after taking this class I can't help but apply what we've learned in class every time I look at something artistic. This course was my favorite. I've never posted a blog a before nor have I ever been in a cluster in which all courses shared many themes and topics that could relate to another class we're taking. It was interesting but a bit challenging. Overall, I had a great time and hopefully I still am involved with art as it's a way to express myself other than writing. ☺☺

You Are Beautiful, Just the Way You Are!~

Eating Disorders

What are Eating Disorders?

An eating disorder is an illness that causes serious disturbances to your everyday diet, such as eating extremely small amounts of food or severely overeating. A person with an eating disorder may have started out just eating smaller or larger amounts of food, but at some point, the urge to eat less or more spiraled out of control. Severe distress or concern about body weight or shape may also signal an eating disorder. Common eating disorders include anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa, and binge-eating Disorders. (http://www.nimh.nih.gov/health/topics/eating-disorders/index.shtml)
I chose this topic because nowadays people, especially young teens, are suffering from eating disorders. Researchers are finding that eating disorders are caused by a complex interaction of genetic, biological, behavioral, psychological, and social factors (second paragraph of this article). I believe that young teens shouldn't care what others say about them. I'm not trying to bring religion into this but someone I know told me that God gave us only one body and that we should appreciate what we have. I strongly believe that we are who we are. As cheesy as this sounds, there is only one of you. There is this YouTuber named Shane Dawson and he made this video called "Highschool Drama". It was a skit that invovled a Highschool girl named Amy who was dumped by her boyfriend because he told her she was fat and when they broke up, Amy wanted a hug and her jerk boyfriend said these harsh wordwords "fat girls dont get hugs". Shane Dawson uses comedy to get his point across which is you shouldn't hate yourself because of the way you look. Shane felt horrible about his body image but he was able to love himself because he uses his sense of humor to make videos which allows him to be himself, which is really inspirational.
Often teens get bullied for their appearance. It often happens in school because that's the place we're at. It is where most of our drama occurs. We get juged on how we look. This is personal for me because I've been judged myself. I was in middle school, and most of us are extremely vunerable since we are really young. But I was very fortunate to have people in my life that cared about me and made me realize that I shouldn't care what others say about me. Like my favorite YouTuber said, " If I don't even love myself then why should anybody else".  The video he made was really funny and sweet, and it helped me get through my issues.
For my monument I will do a drawing that depicts three young girls with different body sizes that are labeled skinny, regular, and over weight. I used three completely different contrasting colors with different words surrounding each girl to demonstrate how they are feeling. Then, I will place my drawing in the middle and cut out inspirational quotes and place them around the drawing. The title will be "You Are Beautiful, Just the Way You Are!~"
I think that my drawing would be displayed in the streets where everyone can see it. Like on phone booths, the train, in school hallways, etc. Maybe if people see this they'll feel better about themselves or at least they'll know that there is someone who cares about them because nothing makes me happier than to see a person smile.

a painting of a gorgeous Chinese women

This is a  painting of a gorgeous Chinese women that I found online. She looks elegant with her hair done beautifully, her makeup, her jewelry, and the accessories on her hair. The white dress that she is wearing makes her look fancy. To me the painting is representational. It depicts a women of higher class and it looks stylized maybe realistic. I'm not sure. The women looks young and her gaze it towards the right. The artist made her look realistic due to the color of her skin and her facial features. Like the eyebrows and her lips. However it can be stylized because of this idea that high class women would wear expensive clothes and jewelry, and they would have their hair done in the most fancy way. To me there is something interesting about her eyes that lured me in. I don't know, maybe it is because when I see someone I notice their eyes first. You can tell a lot just by looking at them.
"Men act and women appear. Men watch women. Women watch themselves being looked at." said by John Berger. I feel that this quote applies to this painting because men are looking at this woman in the painting. They stare as she walks by, taking in her beauty. Maybe these men can't help but think "Man, what a lady. I wish I was the man marrying her." or something between those lines. Her on the other hand can feel that she has to dress like that in order to get the attention of men. Women often feel that they need to change who they are in order to please someone else's idea of what a women should be. I'm not sure on how she truly feels. However not all women do that. Some are comfortable in their skin, and that's great. I mean, who needs a man right? Hahaha. Anyways, I think she pretty and I love the painting. I'm not sure who the artist is because I found it on Google.

a glass of wine please!... or a lonely grey flower with pebbles... I'm not really sure

I found this near the library that I go to. It looks like a glass of wine to me. Or it could me a weird flower with pebbles surrounding it. It's grey and the "pebbles" look like a dark shade of blue. At first it took me a while to notice if I can see anything. Then I saw some sort of glass that could contain red wine. I thought it was pretty cool. However it also occurred to me that it could be a grey flower. I'm not sure. What I find interesting is the spots around the figure. It stands out more and with the texture of the floor, it somehow makes the viewer focus more on the flower/ glass of wine. That's what I believe but again I could be wrong.

the mysterious floor

Floor 1: Untitled (Foyer of the Whitney Museum)

This picture really stood out to me. It reminded me a haunted mansion that would appear in most horror video games. The way it looks made me feel sort of creepy yet elegant. The gray coloring made it appear mysterious and almost like someone wants you to explore the area. The two staircases made me think that no matter which way you go you'll end up in the same place. The two sculptures on the wall complemented the scenery. The chandelier and I think it's a plant with a sculpture on the bottom tied up the whole picture. I loved it. I don't really have much to say about this other than it's beautiful and I want to physically visit this place.

introduction

Hi, my name is Suleymy. I'm a writer. Ever since I was 12 I wrote many short stories. I'm was working on a novel but I put it on hold because I have other things on my plate that I need to focus on. I love to write fiction, and hopefully one day I'll publish my work so that I can share it with many people. It's a big dream however I know that I'll make it happen somehow.....
